mortar fuzes

HONOURED MEMBER RIP
I hear that there are VT fuzes ( electronic) for mortars. How are they set for level of burst on or above the ground? Thanks, highlandotter, a Korean era white beard

They have 4 possible selections:
Delay, to allow the round to penetrate into a bunker, Impact to detonate on contact, NSB for near surface burst, and Prox for higher burst. Any of the four can be selected by rotating a ring on the fuze so the appropriate lettering is by a hash mark.

BTW, the fuze makes its own electricity with an internal impeller that catches the wind.
