this is an odd one, a No.125 Mk1N fuze by VAEL but dated 1953 - 4 years after they were declared obsolete. Appears to be a DRILL version as there is a hole drilled in both sides and it has never been filled.

A couple of possibilities:

1. The 125 was re-introduced (mabe for some Korean War application).
2. That only Land Service use was affected by the 1949 List of Change making the 125 obsolete. The obsoleting paragraph does specifically give the fuze designation with a /L/. Unfortunately the Navy Ordnance people had pulled out of the List of Changes system by 1949 preferring to use their own "Nomen" (Naval Ordnance Memoranda?) which I have not had access to.

Just a thought to avoid the washing-up!

Ah, I bet that fooled everybody. Many thanks for that Norman. I'm still looking for that foolproof reason for not doing the dishes - perhaps I should have asked that question on BOCN!
