Can anybody telle me about the markings on this fuze.

B
No 221 II SM/C

Stand II for Mark two and the B for the weaker detent spring?

Is SM/C the maker marking?

Chris

Chris,

They were a bit tight for space here, thus the position of 'B' is a little confusing. However, according to 'Land Services Fuzes 1964' there was only a 'No. 221B II' and no 'No. 221 IIB' thus as you quiet rightly state the 'B' in this case denotes the substitution of a weaker detent spring. If the 'B' is after the mark it indicates the fuze has a one piece striker instead of a striker with a separate head.

SM/C - Is a Canadian manufacturer, which as yet, I have been unable to identify.

25 Pdr

The Canadians had a Mk 11 25 pdr, which i believe wasn't used in the UK, if that helps the puzzle?

Thanks guys for the information.

The projectile was found near Hengelo in The Netherlands.

The Canadians fought in that area during the second world war, so it all comes together.
