Andy there may be many reasons why the number does not appear on your fuze although it is both annoying and puzzling when this happens.
One reason why numbers are not put on fuzes is that the early pre-production items need to remain secret so are not identified to aid any other interested parties.
Another reason can be to cut costs as stamping or engraving takes time and money.
Also another reason may be that the item has been modified and is no longer a "700" fuze!
The reasons for lack of information on these things are many and various with the likelyhood that we will never find out.
Are there any traces of paint or lacquer on the fuze?
