Punic War expert needed

Something remains from my teenage Latin studies (one of my teachers called me a specialist in neologims and barbarisms - I was never in trouble to invent a new Latin word on a French or Spanish basis if I was stuck in a translation to Latin, or to build Latin sentences using what is called in French "latin de cuisine" ).
All this was a long time ago, but some of the "funny stories" stuck as words like these ones were the kind that had on me the same effect as honey for a bee :
Punic derives from the Latin "poenus" and "punicus", terms deriving from the ancient Greek word "phoinis" and its plural "phoinikes" designing the people we now under the vocable of Phenicians - and this includes the Carthaginians who were originaly Phonician settlers in North Africa.
Punitive comes from the latin "poena" itself deriving form the greek "poine" = punition, penalty.
Well, it's obvious that for an average French Lycee pupil in front of a latin "theme" or "version", "poena" was of course the feminine of "poenus", isn't it?

What i remember from the school : Translation of Tite Live , the sentence of Caton "Delenda est Carthago" and the three Punic Wars .
The origin of Punic is Poenus (Phoenician).
For the romans , the Carthaginians were these Phoenician people.
For me, punitive is quite different , comes from the latin punire (poena) .
