Refurbed Grenade opinion

Hi

I'm after honest opinions advice on the grenade pictured . It bought it with no finish, (paint or shellac on it ) , is this a training grenade or just been de-activated by drilling holes around it ? The holes look to me as if they have been very professionally filled with serrated pegs .

I bought natural shellac cleaned the it off and dipped it , the first result was a disaster it turned green ? , so I cleaned it off , heated the grenade up re dipped it and it came out as the photo which I was quite pleased with .

I have other Grenades , would you re-finish those or leave them as is , a couple have blackened off with age which I was going to leave but a couple looks as if they unfinished , your thoughts are appreciated .

This is the first time I have done something on these lines , so bear with me .:)

Cheers

Dave

its a practice grenade that someone has had the holes plugged,i remember seeing a load of practice grenades for sale a few years ago in holland that had the same done to them ,i would clear the holes out and leave it as a practice grenade,,
i was a sod for so called refinishing things and do understand why people like to make items like new with new paint jobs replicating original colour schemes etc but then i started to look at them and think yes the bodies original but the paints not and this started to bug me .
this is just my own opinion and ultimately the decision is yours

Hey Dave, the refurb looks pretty good from what I can see. I've been done a few refurbs on 'nades that weren't completely original anyway, just because I enjoy it & some turned out pretty cool. I do display some of the better ones, only they don't get to go in the same cabinet as the "real ones." If YOU like it, that's really all that matters. In my case, I just started to "like" my refurbs a little less as time went by. Thanks for the post Brother!

Thanks for your replies ,I'm always open to constructive criticism and others opinions helps to get it right :)

Thanks again

Dave
