I need to ID this fuze. It may have been shortened and shows expansion when fired.

49mm long. 33.4mm cap diam. and 18mm high. 33mm ? across threads. 30.3mm base. What shell would it fit and period of use?

You have an Armstrong Pillar Fuze. It dates from the 1860's and there were slight variations in the exterior between different marks. It was typically used on lead coated shells of 40 lb. Picture courtesy of John D. Bartleson Jr.
