Doesn't look very mobile to me. Are these just for use on artillery ranges then? They appear a bit clumsy for combat use and defeat the object of having mobile artillery.

Vacuum cleaner
In reality it may be a device for collecting unburnt propellant and various items of debris from a shot !
And I think the two side chambers may be a vacuum to absorb the hot gasses.
