New Nebelwerfer 41

Because I couldn't find a original Fuze adapter (Mundlochbuchse), I had to have one made.

And here it is:

The WRG Z 50 fuze screws into the adapter, but because the Rocket is damaged at it's mouth, it's easier to simply just place the adapter straight into the Pocket. So after a lot of measuring and making templates, I finally received the adapter and it fits perfectly as the pictures show.

So now it's almost complete, it's a matter of putting them all together and cleaning/painting is the next stage.

Any body know what the correct colour is for the Nebelwerfer 41 Flamm? :hmpf:

Finally got the undercoat on it, Red Oxide Primer.

There's traces of the old Red Primer on it.

Also, there are traces of Green paint on the shell, so I'm edging towards that colour.

A base coat of Green will be added first, the the top coat of dark Green will be added.

Also, I have found this Document on the Stenciling.

Any body know what the Nn means and the odd two letters that look like like a P & M?

I know it is a date, but what do the other letters mean?

Right under our noses, Look at the diagram in the 28/32 cm manual in downloads, Anlage 4 says the color is feldgrau, the standard field grey of the Wehrmacht and the markings are white and it also says what the markings should mean .

Bill, all the existing examples I've seen pictures of, all are dark green (RAL70/71??) :hmmmm2:

Even plastic models are saying dark green is correct...

What would you paint it?

My example does have traces of green on it... mainly around the "ribs".

I've opened the file, but don't really understand the German meanings?

The positioning of the "32 cm Fl" marking seems to be different on this example?

What Germans called Feldgrau ( Field Grey ) is what others call dark green, olive drab, or whatever. However I bet you can't find a matching RAL-scheme for it and you have to mix it by hand.

A friend of mine has a actual tin Of Luftwaffe dark green.. (RLM 70/71 honestly)...

I thought "feldgrau" was field Grey... but it seems to cover dark green as well :hmpf:

I'm going to paint it dark green.

Definitely :top:

Depending on which dates you'll stencil on it you also may paint it to "Sptkrieg Sandfarbe" ( khaki, which however is not DAK khaki ). I think sometimes around 1943 a lot of ordnance items were also painted to sand color.

I think around 1942 - I've seen a date on a rocket like mine in a museum, so I might rob, erm, use that...

I'm going to get some aerosols made in dark green and use that as a base coat.

I'll then have some RLM 70/71 made, to use as the top coat.

Undercoated - At Last!

Finally the weather has got better and I've finally got some green paint on it.

Is this the right type of green or is it darker?

I'm 75% there, and I don't know whether to leave the Rocket motor as it is or should I paint it? :hmmmm2:

The mind boggles...

Pete, I like these when they are painted in the dark grey colour.
The green colour you have painted is much too light in my opinion - the green was a very dark grey/green and very difficult to get an exact match.

there are some dark grey painted ones in this thread

Ben (Fjordhouse) has some excellent images in his photogallery .........see here http://www.bocn.co.uk/gallery/showimage.php?i=10008&c=692 (and yes I know this is the 28cm version but will give you an idea too)

regards Kev

That green is just the undercoat Kev, I'm going to paint it RAL 70/71, the pictures I've seen of these in collections/Museums are all in dark green.

Just the odd one is painted dark grey. :hmmmm:

OK Pete, its just that I read your earlier post ; 'Finally the weather has got better and I've finally got some green paint on it. Is this the right type of green or is it darker?'

It seems the Germans used red as a primer/undercoat on a lot of their ordnance. Finding the correct shade of grey/green paint is not an easy task, which is why I suggested dark grey as an alternative - I have seen photos of them painted dark grey - though I have to admit I am not in a position to say if its correct or not.

regards Kev

Kev, I meant to say it's the "base coat", just to cover the red oxide undercoat. some dark greens are almost grey/black colour.

The colour I put on was because I couldn't get a match in matt finish, so the car paint mixing shop around the corner had some colour tabs and I picked this one from memory. As you say it is far too light.

The colour I'm going to try is pictured, number 896 Vallejo extra dark green. If the paint mixing shop can match it... :banghead:

Thanks for your replies Kev, much appreciated mate.

Colour change, it's now a much darker green.

The problems continue, with the bottom of the Rocket badly rusted.

The thread for the motor is badly damaged, while on the motor, it's in great condition.

A couple of coats of "Hammerite" anti-rust gel has been applied, but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

I can't see it fitting into the Rocket by turning it, so I might have to jam it in (?) :hmmmm2:

The whole bottom end of the Rocket is badly corroded, especially on the inside, as you can see by the small hole.

Still not 100% happy with the colour...

Any ideas?
