BOCN Guess what it is

Czech RG-4

Bonnex, very close. It is the Egypt nock off variant of the RG-4 but as the defensive version (the RG-4 has no such inlays).

Damn, I nearly said that but I couldn't do the wormspeak :) or work out whether it was called a No 2 or No 3 in Egyptian parlance.

Was the answer close enough for me to post the next 'guess what'?

As always simple for those who know, difficult for those who don't.

Not a silencer. Mike is on the right track with SOE although they didn't make this, they used it.

Not a firing device as such but you do need to add one to it.

How about a "Dust Initiator" or a "Explosive Candle"?

Dust Initiator it is, known as "LULU". Switch has it by a wisker.

Lulu consists of an aluminium tube filled with a mixture of flaked TNT and magnesium initiated by an AC Delay or Clockwork Delay etc., and is specially designed to be used in situations where a dust explosion can be created such as a flour mill or coal mine or a ship's hold (the original work was started in association with Limpets I believe). It could be used with petrol. it is an OSS device and according to Donald McLean and John Brunner only 310 of these were made by the American Models Company at a total cost of $4,619. Just a few were sent to the UK.

References: McLeans's classic work on OSS weapons and devices "The Plumber's Kitchen", Normount Technical Publications, 1975
Brunner "OSS Weapons II" (second edition), Phillips Publications, 2005

Both recommended. Brunner's first edition is also very good but the second edition is an improvement, and in colour.

Over to Switch.

Bonnex,

Do you have any more photos or drawings/graphics of the Lulu Dust Initiator?

Another item on a similar theme - People present on Saturday should remember this one.DSC_0854.jpg
