BOCN Guess what it is

Norman or Switch,

Any further info on the Home Guard molotovs? We've got two and only know what they are, because of where they came from.

Regards

TimG

Norman. Thanks for that . I wouldn't have slept tonight without a positive ID on the type D ! Mike. PS . Nice listing . Makes a change from things only their mothers would love [or recognise] .
Mike,

I put an identification guide to the Alphabetical series of grenades in 'Downloads'.

P.S. - I would be very interested on any further info on McAlpine delays if at all possible. F.

I'll do a more comprehensive job another day but briefly the McAlpine fuze was the first to employ the acetone-celluloid delay principle and is therefore the forerunner of a range of aircraft bomb pistols from No 17 onwards, the Land Service 600 series and the SOE AC delays. It was devised in about 1916 and a number were made to fit the Stokes 3-inch bomb to give a long delay and the Navy had access to a large smoke float fitted with the same fuze for deception purposes.

Tim,

As you know improvised Molotovs were made from every sort of bottle but this example, and presumably yours too, was manufactured by a bottle maker for the purpose. Many years ago I did try to find reference to this manufacture in the Contracts Papers at the TNA but I was not successful. As with a number of Home Guard weapons they may have been produced under a 'local purchase' scheme.

"Just a few interesting SAA items including a couple of pencils and apologies to Tony for the fake wooden bullet which I made up to demonstrate the idea."

I have a spare original wood bullet if you need one?

Cheers
Tony

Hangarman and V40 you're both very close, it is a clock timer but I was looking for a bit more detail, what's it off.

Here's a zoomed out view.

Dave.

That was a difficult one!
It is a mechanical time fuze for the German "Kugelgandgranate mit mechanischem Zeitznder".

I knew I had seen it before.
I found it accidentally when sorting images, got here and see now you posted a complete view.
