I see the similarity but it is not a fuel tank and not a depth charge but depth charge is close (ish). It is British and it would have contained explosive.
The story of the development of the W Bomb is worth reading in The Toyshop although the contribution of Midgley, who basically made it work, is not given much coverage. It was used operationally and there is a German manual devoted to the bomb ( or fluvial mine as it might be described). According to some research I did many years ago most of the output, about 10,000 from recollection, was shipped to No 21 Maintenance Unit, the significance of which will be understood by the RAF EOD members.
