French ww2 Ordnance

1940_France

New Member
Hello everyone, I'm searching for plans of the torpedoes, mines and depth charges used by the french navy during the first part of the war (1939-1940).
I've already find some but if it's possible I'd like to have the others.
(I also have the manuel du marin torpilleur)
Does anyone have any plan ?
Thank you for your help.

In June 1940, the French Navy had only moored mines supplied by three manufacturers: Bréguet (B) and Sautter-Harié (H and HS for submarines).
Bréguet supplied five models (B1 to B5) with payloads of 60, 100, 110, 80, and 220 kg, respectively.
Sautter-Harié supplied five models, the H1, H3, H4, H5, H6, and H7, with payloads of 80 kg (H1), 110 kg (H3), 220 kg (H4, H5), 300 kg (H6), and 100 kg (H7).
The aforementioned company supplied the HS1 (60 kg), HS1M (113 kg), HS2 (220 kg), HS4 (220 kg), HS5 (200 kg), and H6 (200 kg) for submarines. All these mines were moored mines, but in September 1942 a magnetic mine appeared that could be laid by aircraft and submarines.

Guiraud Model 1922 underwater grenades of 260 kg with a 200 kg warhead, hydrostatically detonated at a depth of 30, 50, 75, or 100 meters, as well as 130.4 kg grenades with 100 kg of tolite and 52 kg grenades with a 35 kg warhead. These grenades were launched by axial grenade launchers or side projectors.
-New ASW grenades were introduced in 1943: 150 kg grenades with 130 kg of explosive. These lighter grenades allowed ships to increase their capacity by 30 to 45%.

For data, you have quite a number of sources on the web - and do not forget the "ecpad" site: https://imagesdefense.gouv.fr/ for photographies (a very slow site but quite a good resource for iconography) such as this one: a 550mm Torpedo head photographied in November 1939

BTW the Sauter (Sautter)-harle mines were used by a number of countries - for the 1939-43 period it is worthy to note that Poland and Romania used them, Poland even producing tehm under license in te interwar - see here the page dedicated to the HS4 AR mine pruduced under the name SM 5 in Poland in teh thirties:
and this one on French torpeodes used by the Polish Navy in 1939
