Hz 05 schr question , something unusual?

I'm not sure if these pictures add anything to the conversation, but the one on the left is unmarked and the one on the right is HZ 05 Schr

Hi AM 16
According to the archival names of documents... which are publicly known, it is still necessary to include in the list of types H.Z.05 a type with the name: U.H.Z.05,, what is the meaning of the letter U - I do not know yet.
Akon.
U means Unterricht

Those U Fuzes are inert. Additionally to them there were "U aufgeschnitten" models which are factory made 1/4 cut sections.

Hi Alpini
That's interesting. Hopefully, a drawing with this designation will be found later... which would support and anchor that opinion.
other designation:
H.Z.05 Sch. o.V (ohne Vorstecker)

Hello,
Nice Fuze!
If the brass plate is smooth, without a bar, then it's indeed the same as this one.

Thanks also to Bernard Delsert book for the photo.

In response to Alpini , to strenghten thesis about half finished hz 05 fuzes , Bernards Delserts answer.

About the HZ 05 Shrapnell fuze, a friend of mine has also discovered one kind différent from those in my collection ... (it came out from Elsaz, east of France)

I presume that when the German decided to stop production of the HZ 05 * for the Universal shell (explosive mixed with lead bullets) , a large number of those fuzes were half finished in the works, at different steps and the changes made in the drawings could afford to let down some drillings as not worth for schrapnel fuzing. Hence the differences which can be discovered on various fuzes of this kind...

We must understand that there was a lot ot smaller factories making parts of various fuzes and they can have been said sooner or latter that a major change had been made. The final assembling of the fuzes was made in a large factory putting together the pieces and primers, détonators and powder train for timing. That was the job of the Seburg arsenal for instance as the work was much complex.

Thank you everyone.

So the U and Ub are different models? Who would use each type? Here is my Ub model which has many internal pieces whereas the drawing of the U model appears to be just a solid body?
Richard

"Üb" models are simplified cheap models made to be fired. "U" models are for the classroom and not for firing. Some U-models have solid bodies (like the one shown here). These are to train the gunners with the same purpose as Ex-models. But most U-Models are fully functional but inert to train artillery depot personel / ordnance officers. U-fuzes are of course very rare.
