WWII Rubber Practice Grenade? ID Help Please.

Hello all,

I was hoping for some information on this hard rubber practice grenade I recently found in a mixed lot at auction. It is marked 'PROV. PAT. No 14687/41' so is presumably British and of WWII era. I have googled extensively but can't find any matches/information. It has a weighted core and weighs 1lb 7oz / 653gms. It appears to have been painted with a silver metallic paint, now mostly worn off.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Tom.

The UK do not offer Provisional Patents, the usual countries to offer Provisional are the USA and Australia, so I would be inclined to direct searches to Australia.
